What else does 20 minutes of relief cost?

A physio appointment in Australia typically runs $90–$110, and you have to book it, drive to it, and book the next one. Heat patches are a few dollars a night, every night, forever.

The Ember is once. Then it's yours, on the couch, whenever your back asks for it.

Will this actually help my back?

Here's the honest answer.

The Ember doesn't fix what's causing your back to ache. Nothing you wear does. What it does is put deep, steady warmth against the tight band of muscle across your lower back, and hold it there — which is the one thing that reliably makes that band let go.

Heat is the oldest trick in the book for a stiff back, and it's the part of this belt doing most of the work. The two massage motors add a gentle, deeper working-in on either side of your spine.

If your ache is the everyday kind — from sitting too long, lifting too much, or a body that's simply had a big day — this is built for you. If your pain is severe, getting worse, or shooting down a leg, please see a health professional first. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a belt.

How is this different from a wheat bag or a heat patch?

Time, and your hands.

A wheat bag is properly warm for about twelve minutes. Then you're up at the microwave again, and you have to sit still against it the whole time.

Stick-on heat patches work, but they're single-use. Use one most evenings and you're spending money on heat every month, forever.

The Ember holds its temperature for up to 100 minutes on a charge, straps on so your hands are free, and you can walk around in it. Charge it, wear it, charge it again. That's the whole difference.

What am I actually paying for?

Three things, and none of them are the fabric.

The heating grid. Two panels set into the lining, covering the full width of your lower back — not a hot spot in the middle. Three temperature levels, up to around 65°C.

The battery. 5000mAh, which is what buys you the runtime. Up to 100 minutes of continuous heat, or around 66 minutes with the massage running too. Two to three hours to recharge over USB.

The motors. Two of them, positioned either side of the spine rather than one buzzing in the middle, with three intensities.

Cheaper belts cut the battery first. That's why they're cheaper, and that's why they're cold by the time you've settled into the chair.

How long should I wear it, and is it safe?

Twenty to thirty minutes at a time is the sweet spot, and it's also the safe limit.

Prolonged low-grade heat directly against skin can cause low-temperature burns and a mottled skin discolouration — so a few plain rules:

✅ Wear it over a thin layer of clothing at the higher settings
✅ Keep sessions to 20–30 minutes
✅ Use the lock so it can't change while you're sitting

❌ Don't fall asleep in it
❌ Don't use it on broken or inflamed skin
❌ Not for you if you have reduced skin sensation, nerve damage or circulation problems, or if you're pregnant — check with your doctor first

The heat grid is the part that matters.

Open the belt up and you can see where the money went. Two heating panels run the full width of the lining — not a single hot spot in the middle that leaves the edges of your back cold. The warmth spreads across the whole tight band, which is the part that actually aches. Three temperature levels, up to around 65°C. Turn it up on a bad night, down on an easy one.

Press once. Then forget about it.

One black panel on the front. A wave for the massage, a flame for the heat, three levels of each, and the temperature right there in green so you know exactly what you've got on. There's a lock, too. Press it and nothing changes when you shift in your chair or lean back into the couch — which sounds like a small thing until it's happened to you. Your dad could use it. That was the brief.

It's cordless, so your evening doesn't stop.

The thing about a heat pack is that it pins you to the couch. You hold it there, or you lie on it, and that's the next twenty minutes gone. The Ember straps on and stays on. Make a cup of tea in it. Do the dishes in it. Sit at your desk, drive to work, potter in the shed. It sits flat enough to disappear under a jumper. No cord, no wall socket, no sitting still.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit me?

Almost certainly. The main belt is 118cm long and 20cm deep, and a 92cm extension strap is included in the box for larger waists. It's soft neoprene with full velcro adjustment, so there's no fixed size to get wrong — wrap it on snug, not tight.

How long does the battery last?

On a full charge: up to around 100 minutes of continuous heat on the highest setting, or roughly 66 minutes with heat and massage running together. Lower settings last longer. It recharges over USB in 2–3 hours, and you can't use it while it's charging.

For most people that's three or four evening sessions between charges.

Is it noisy?

You'll hear the motors. It's a real vibration massage, not a gentle hum, and on the highest setting it's audible across a quiet room — about like a phone buzzing on a table.

Most people run it on level one or two, which is much quieter, or use the heat on its own in the evening and save the massage for when nobody's trying to watch telly.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on all orders within Australia. Our head office is in Melbourne and we ship Australia-wide, typically arriving within 3–7 days.

Can I wear it while I sleep?

No — please don't. It has an auto shut-off, but prolonged heat against skin while you're asleep is exactly how low-temperature burns happen, because you don't feel it building.

Use it for 20–30 minutes while you're awake, then take it off. If your pain is severe, worsening, or radiating down a leg, see a health professional rather than reaching for more heat.
